| Ski towns aim to collect more vacation-rental revenue Posted: 16 Sep 2010 11:11 PM PDT FRISCO — Ski-town officials from across the Mountain West met in Frisco on Thursday, kicking off an initiative to monitor online vacation rentals and help ensure that tax revenue is collected. Hundreds of thousands of dollars are believed to be lost each year through property owners renting out their residences online, according to a previous report. Most of the members of the Colorado Association of Ski Towns (which also has members in Utah, Wyoming and Idaho) have agreed on a program by Eye Street Solutions that helps to verify compliance. "Monitoring includes tracking changes in the status of identified properties as well as the number of days that are booked and rental rates," Breckenridge town manager Tim Gagen said in a staff memo. The Summit Daily was denied access to the meeting of CAST officials at Frisco Town Hall. The program's start is expected to cost $15,000 in CAST reserves. Participating communities would pay an initial cost of $25 per "vacation rental by owner" property identified plus a $1 per property, per month monitoring fee, according to the memo.
