| MetroFlats.com Scores Seed Funding for Vacation Rental Search Engine Posted: 18 Aug 2010 12:01 AM PDT MetroFlats.com, a premier vacation rental marketplace service, announced today early stage capital from investment firm AA Investments LLC (PRWEB) August 18, 2010 -- MetroFlats.com, a premier vacation rental marketplace service, announced today early stage capital from investment firm AA Investments LLC. In late July 2010, AA Investments of Clifton, NJ invested an undisclosed amount in MetroFlats.com. "The smart money is on new business during a recession," so says Anil Duggal of AA Investments, echoing the mantra of so many venture capitalists. "Now is the time to invest in small start-up companies. Because the economy is tight they are going to grow the right way. Slow and steady." Apple, Oracle and Zappos are all companies that made it huge during a recession because there were investors willing to take a chance during the toughest times. AA Investments is confident that MetroFlats.com will be one of those stories. MetroFlats.com was founded by Avisha Khubani (CEO), an entrepreneur who launched sister company MetroFlatsNYC.com, and Shamoon Siddiqui (VP of Product Development), a serial entrepreneur, in May 2010. The company's goal is to connect guests (i.e. vacationers) with the vacation rentals provided by hosts who are looking to supplement their income by renting out their second homes. Key words the company lives by are "user-friendly" and "simple". "We are incredibly excited about this partnership" said Khubani. "It's not easy to invest in start-ups right now, but AA Investments has made the right choice." "I'm thrilled," said Siddiqui, "We've been doing great so far. With AA Investments we can grow faster and get better." He added, "An inexpensive alternative to hotels that's as comfortable as your own home, how can you go wrong?" MetroFlats.com has built its business on servicing both vacationers and property owners who wish to sublet their space. The popularity of the vacation rental industry has soared as more and more vacationers are looking for more affordable ways to travel. "People are still vacationing. They still want to go on trips with their friends and families, but they doing it smarter and cheaper now. Business has been wonderful for me, and MetroFlats.com has allowed me to sublet the guest home on my property. It keeps me happy because I can make enough to make ends meet, and the guests just love it too," says vacation rental host Noel of Atlanta, GA. The investment comes at a time when the vacation rental climate is ripe. Homeaway.com, the market leader in vacation rental listings worldwide, is largely responsible for the spike in demand in the vacation rental industry. Their "Griswolds: in Hotel Hell Commercials," which played during the 2010 Superbowl, brought the industry more toward a main stream. Despite difficult economic times, venture capitalists are paying more attention to this new industry because they see the enormous potential of this market. | One More Song: Sara Radle, The White Ravens, and Jenny and Johnny Posted: 18 Aug 2010 06:13 AM PDT Wednesday, August 18, 2010 I hear you pounding your feet. Summer vacation's almost over and, soon, you'll have to go back to work. You want more cool songs to listen to, so I've waded through a pile of them. Add these to your playlist as an encore for your musical enjoyment. "Song For Adam" from Four by Sara Radle Best known as part of the new lineup of former Weezer bassist Matt Sharp's The Rentals, this talented 30-year-old from San Antonio, Texas has fronted two other bands and recorded three solo albums. On those albums, she not only played all the instruments, she starred in, shot, and edited music videos for the songs "Mess Like You" and "Nobody's Watching." Her latest solo effort Four comes out in September 14th. "Song For Adam" sounds glossy for indie music, but Radle doesn't fake any emotions. If you get a chance, get Calamity Magnet's self-titled release in addition to Four. It's pop-rock with a hint of 60's girl groups and country. "Tick-Tock" from Gargoyles and Weather Vanes by The White Ravens This next band hails from Ann Arbor, Michigan, which is also home to the crazy rocker Iggy Pop. Aside from the word "pop" that's about all they have in common. This young band consists of bassist/vocalist Amy Bennett, keyboardist/guitarist Will Bennett, guitarist Andrew Brown, and drummer Vince Russo. Happily geeky, the influence of They Might Be Giants shines from their debut Gargoyles and Weather Vanes. Bright upbeat 60's rock with goofy lyrics could totally act as the soundtrack for an early morning kids show. It's catchy and the picture book metaphors about alligators and alarm clocks are more complex than they seem. The album is out now. Those of you living on the East Coast can see them live this August and September. "Scissor Runner" from I'm Having Fun Now by Jenny and Johnny A side project for Rilo Kiley's Jenny Lewis and singer-songwriter Johnathan Rice, they envisioned it while working on each other's solo albums. Lewis leans into country and folk while Rice combines country and rock. With the arrival of I'm Having Fun Now, I think they've succeeded in writing different music than what they're known for. Listening to "Big Wave" and "Scissor Runner," the record will likely vary moods with each song. The latter power-pop song, fueled by a big bass riff and boy-girl harmonies, sounds the better of the two. The twee lyrics remind me of new loves just starting out and sound perfect for the summer. I'm Having Fun Now comes out on August 31st. Catch them on tour in September.
